Caldey Island

No visit to Tenby is complete without visiting Caldey Island. Caldey is an island inhabited by about twenty Monks of the Reformed Cistercian Order.
The island is reached from Tenby harbour where a fleet of boats run a regular daily service.
After disembarking on Priory beach, walk to the village green which is overlooked by the Monastery. Here you can have a coffee, and let the children play, do not worry about the traffic, there are no cars!
The monastery is open to the public but to men only. On the green can be found tea rooms, post office, a small museum with the history of the island,together with artifacts found around the island. There is a gift shop and perhaps, more well known, the perfumery where the famous Caldey Island perfume can be purchased.
My favourite part of the island is the light house end where you can sit and picnic, and if you are lucky watch the seals basking on the rocks below.
