Kenfig National Nature Reserve
Kenfig National Nature Reserve, and Glamorgan’s largest natural lake, Kenfig Pool, is set on the edge of this beautiful area, with spectacular views from Sker beach across Swansea Bay to the Gower. It is one of the finest Wildlife habitats in Wales and one of the last remnants of a huge dune system that once stretched along the coast of Southern Wales from the River Ogmore to the Gower peninsula. The reserve is home to unique wild orchids, as well as insects and wildlife. Kenfig is one of the most important sites in Britain for nature conservation
There is an Information Centre for children of all ages, and a shop for leaflets, books and conservation gifts. Stroll along the boardwalk and stop at one of the bird hides overlooking the 70-acre freshwater pool, a favourite refuge for wildfowl at all times of the year. Chidren will have great fun on the sand dunes!
Wardens are often on site to answer any queries you may have.
Please note that although there is wheelchair access to the information Centre and Mini Nature Reserve, along with seating, access to the main part of the reserve is difficult.
Kenfig National Nature Reserve can be reached from Junction 37 of the M4 Motorway and is signposted from North Cornelly, Pyle and Porthcawl. There are also local buses, which stop outside the Reserve.
